That button – the big red one – on the treadmill… you know the one?
So, I was on the treadmill the other day and this button was goading me… it was the one thing that was leaping out of the control panel…
When you are learning to run, after being a power walker, you need a GO button, or a WELL DONE button or maybe even a YOU GOT THIS button!
I took action – I covered it with my towel, a few seconds later it had reappeared, my towel had slipped, I did this about 4 times before I had a ‘penny drop’ moment… I was doing the same thing over and over again, and getting the same result [the RED STOP button kept coming back at me]
So, I did something different, I put the towel over it and wedged it in place with my water bottle. I never saw the red STOP button* again during that session! That’s a win for me…. and my running continues.
Now I know many of you run, and probably run really well… but as a beginner, age 57 – these kind of things need dealing with. I am about to embark on a fitness challenge – I will need all the help I can get, and the pesky red button can go ‘do one’ it’s not helpful at all!
*for those of you who are now thinking health and safety – risk assessments etc – I did still have the dangly cord accessible so I could have pulled it at any time if I had got into trouble.
